A total of 10 candidates were by close of business on Thursday nominated to contest for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat.
The election to replace Muhammad Ssegirinya is set for March, 13.
The nomination process, which ran from February 26 to 27, saw several contestants submit their credentials, with one candidate being disqualified for failing to meet the required documentation.
Among the nominated candidates was  Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola of the National Unity Platform (NUP), who had earlier  faced security challenges on his way to the nomination center.
During the scuffle between security operatives and his team, Miracle Ibra, a journalist with Top TV, was injured and nearly lost his eye.
Others nominated were Muhammad Lusswa Luwemba, who was nominated as an independent candidate. Moses Nsereko, also running as an independent, is well known for his comic acts.
Sadat Mukiibi (Khalifah Aganaga), a renowned musician, was nominated on the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) ticket.
Faridah Nambi will represent the National Resistance Movement (NRM) as the party’s flag bearer.
Kasacca Henry Mubiru from the Democratic Party (DP) was also duly nominated. Mutazindwa Muhamood will contest as an independent candidate, while Musiitwa Ismail was nominated under the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
Hanifa Karadi Murerwa will also be on the ballot as an independent candidate.
Additionally, Edward Stanley Maitum Engena, an independent candidate and son of Uganda’s former President Apollo Milton Obote, has also been nominated to contest in the by-election.
The ten candidates will later today be briefed by the Electoral Commission before they embark on campaigns ahead of the highly anticipated vote.
