The Anti-Corruption Court in Nakasero, Kampala remanded two former URA employees on charges of corruption and abuse of office.

URA prosecution team alleges that on August 30, 2023, Caroline Naggoli and Benedict Sekaayi solicited a bribe of Shs800 million from Tong Jiao alias Elena a taxpayer.

Prosecution alleged that Naggoli employed as a supervisor and Sekaayi as an officer solicited the bribe at Guanghua Hotel Kololo to reduce a tax liability from Shs4,112,884,821 to Shs2,200,000,000 due from Migoo Industrial and Trading Co. Limited.

The court presided over by Her Worship Joan Aciro, heard that Naggoli and Sekaayi face two counts of corruption and abuse of office contrary to sections 2, 11, and 26 of the Anti-Corruption Act.

The duo denied the charges laid against them and were remanded to a government prison until Monday, February 12, 2024.

Declining the bail application presented by their lawyer Joseph Angura, the chief magistrate noted that the court does not find the sureties presented substantial.

Her Worship Aciro advised the accused to not give bail money to any individual but to pay it in the bank when their bail is granted on February 12.
