Francis Mwijukye, the deputy treasurer of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC-Katonga faction), reaffirms that their consultative meetings are proceeding smoothly.
In an interview with Nile Post, Buhweju County MP Mwijukye assures that their consultations have encountered no disruptions so far.
He likens these meetings to essential groundwork, suggesting that the FDC Katonga faction is nearing the establishment of a new political entity.
“Following directives from national delegates, we have embarked on consultations, and they are progressing as planned,” Mwijukye states.
“We have covered Kira, Jinja, Mbarara, and currently in Kabale, with plans to proceed to Rukungiri tomorrow. The response has been positive throughout.”
Led by former FDC president Col (Rtd) Dr Kizza Besigye, the faction has engaged leaders from Kisoro, Rubanda, Rukiga, and Kabale during consultative meetings in Kabale.
Alongside Mwijukye, other party leaders involved include Kabale Municipality MP Nichola Kamara, former FDC chairman Waswa Birigwa, former vice-president for eastern Salaamu Musumba, former deputy secretary general Harold Kaija, and mobiliser and former Rukungiri District Woman MP candidate Igrid Turinawe.
“All districts’ leaders are actively participating, and we’ve received additional members eager to understand our message,” Mwijukye adds. “Our progress in Kigezi sub-region is encouraging.”
He highlights that the consultations align with the party’s objectives, gathering valuable input from Ankole and Kigezi residents.
Ms. Musumba reaffirms their commitment to the cause, emphasizing their perseverance despite challenges.
“With two decades in the struggle, we remain resolute. Betrayal from some of our comrades won’t deter us; we’ll persist,” Musumba asserts.
The FDC-Katonga faction’s nationwide consultations continue, with the team currently in Rukungiri, marking the culmination of their tours in the Kigezi sub-region.
