In a move aimed at enhancing waste management practices within Kampala, the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has received a generous donation of 250 garbage skips from RIC Energy, a key player in renewable energy initiatives across Africa.

The official handover of the donation took place under the auspices of Hajat Minsa Kabanda, the Minister of Kampala Capital City Authority and Metropolitan Affairs, who lauded RIC Energy’s holistic approach. This approach involves transforming waste into energy and fertilizer, thereby promoting environmental sustainability while fostering economic growth.

Minister Kabanda highlighted the significance of the garbage skips in supporting KCCA’s endeavors to implement the presidential directive of ensuring one bin for every 200 meters across the city.

In addition to the dustbin donation, RIC Energy has announced plans to establish a waste-to-energy plant in Kampala, further underscoring its commitment to green initiatives and the creation of cleaner urban environments.

Expressing appreciation for the donation, Dorothy Kisaka, the Executive Director of KCCA, stressed the importance of responsible waste disposal practices and urged city residents to make optimal use of the newly provided bins.

“KCCA aims to strategically place garbage skips in high-traffic areas to streamline waste disposal processes. Our initial focus will be on the central business district, with plans for expansion,” Kisaka affirmed, urging residents to refrain from littering drainages and utilize the bins effectively.

Chuvh Rajesh, CEO of RIC Energy Africa, reiterated the company’s unwavering support for KCCA’s initiatives and highlighted their seven-year presence in Uganda, emphasizing a continued commitment to sustainability.

The collaborative partnership between KCCA and RIC Energy extends beyond the donation of garbage bins, encompassing joint efforts to implement innovative waste management strategies, including plans for the decommissioning of the Kitezi landfill site.

The donation signifies a significant stride towards a cleaner and more accessible future for Kampala residents, underlining the importance of citizen engagement in promoting responsible waste disposal practices and maintaining a sustainable urban environment.
