Speaker Anita Among has urged the Ministry of Education and Sports to provide clear directives to schools regarding the transportation of students, emphasizing the necessity of preventing the perilous practice of transporting children on trucks, likened to livestock.

Expressing deep concern over the unsafe transportation methods witnessed, Speaker Among cautioned about the potential for tragedy if this practice continues unchecked.

Her remarks were spurred by the raised alarm of Sarah Opendi, Tororo Woman MP, who highlighted the persistent occurrence of transporting learners on trucks despite government regulations prohibiting it.

Opendi emphasized the urgent need for action, particularly with schools preparing for athletics competitions where the transportation of students in such hazardous conditions is expected to increase.

She called upon both the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Education to offer explicit guidance and enforce existing regulations to prevent potential accidents and safeguard the lives of students.

The Speaker’s plea for intervention underscores the critical necessity for immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
