The Ministry of Education and Sports has directed the District Education officers and Inspectors of schools to increase their vigilance against schools that continue to violate the education policies by teaching in holidays .

The directive has been issued by the Minister of Primary Education Dr Moriku Kaducu who was releasing the official closing dates for this first term and opening and closing dates for the 2nd term.

The released dates indicate that Term one will close on 3rd May 2024 and students will spend three weeks at home.

The  2nd term will open on 27th May and close on 3rd August 2024.

Minister Kaducu  said any  school that will be found teaching during holidays risk having their operations  licence  revoked.

She warned schools that the ministry doesn’t have  policies that permit schools to teach in holidays.

” We advised school heads to focus on preparing and improving their schools to create a conducive learning environment for the second term rather than teaching in holiday. ” says Kaducu.

She reveals that the first term has been highlighted with challenges of fire outbreaks and red eye disease which greatly affected the learning of students.

Minister urged parents to take full responsibility for their children while at home during the three weeks holiday by upholding cultural values and controlling them on use social media.

She advised  special attention  should be given  to the girl child to prevent  teenage pregnancy.
