Bus Terminal Managers Agree To Delay Fee Increment

Bus owners and the management of both Namayiba and Kisenyi bus terminals have agreed to defer for one month the increment of loading fees from Shs 53,000 to Shs 59,000 until June 13th 2024.

This is one of eleven resolutions from a meeting that was held at the works and transport ministry yesterday.

The meeting that was also attended by the Director Traffic and Road Safety and the Kampala Metropolitan Police Traffic Commander, addressed various concerns including rent increment without notice, failure to provide receipts; high electricity charges and overcrowding by hawkers.

According to a May 14th statement signed by Winstone Katushabe on behalf of the Works Permanent Secretary, the Ministry also noted with concern that bus operators are losing a lot of money due to the presence and influence of brokers operating in and around the bus terminals.

On Monday this week, Both Kisenyi and Namayiba bus terminal managements blocked buses from exiting for non-payment of Value Added Tax to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA)

However, URA spokesperson Ibrahim Bossa says only those buses that rent space are subject to this tax because the owner of the terminal is required to remit it.
