NFA Cancels 112 Land Titles With Uganda’s Central Forest Reserves

The National Forestry Authority (NFA) has canceled 112 illegally issued land titles located within Uganda’s Central Forest Reserves (CFRs). This move is a significant step in safeguarding the country’s protected forest lands.

The cancelled titles were mainly from districts in Central Uganda, including Kampala, Kayunga, Mukono, Jinja, Masaka, Entebbe, and Mpigi. These land titles had been fraudulently issued on government-protected forest land.

As part of its mandate, the NFA manages and protects CFRs, which cover 1,265,741 hectares across the country. The Authority continues to take firm action against land encroachment and other illegal activities that threaten these vital environmental resources.

Additionally, the NFA and the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development are reviewing another 700 illegal land titles that have been identified for cancellation.

Aldon Walukamba, the Communications and Public Relations Manager at NFA, cautioned the public against fraudsters who create fake documents and issue illegal land titles on forest land.

“We call on the public to be aware of illegal land dealers who fabricate documents and positions with the intention of creating fraudulent land titles on government forest land, duping unsuspecting clients of their time and money,” Walukamba warned.

He also urged district local governments and other relevant agencies to seek verification from the NFA before processing or issuing any land titles.

“We implore district local governments and other government agencies not to process or issue land titles without seeking information from the NFA,” he emphasized.
