Makerere University Business School (MUBS) on April 4, 2025, hosted its highly anticipated annual Cultural Gala at its main campus in Nakawa, attracting thousands of students, staff, and invited guests for a vibrant celebration of Uganda’s rich ethnic diversity.

Held under the theme “Rooted in Tradition and Growing Towards Sustainability,” the event showcased cultural pride through traditional music, dance, attire, drama, and more.

More than 40 tribal groups participated, each presenting unique performances that highlighted their cultural heritage. The top 10 cultural showcases judged on creativity, authenticity, and audience impact included: Acholi, Langi, Bakiga, Karamojong, Buganda, South Sudanese, Iteso, Bamasaba, Banyoro, and Great Arua.

The gala was sponsored by Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda, whose support added excitement through free drinks, interactive experience zones, and live performances by national music stars Vinka and Fik Fameica, who electrified the audience with their energetic sets.

MUBS Guild President Moses Amanya praised the event for fostering national unity and cultural pride.

“This gala shows that our cultural differences are a source of strength. As students preparing to engage globally, it’s vital we uphold our roots,” he said.

Coca-Cola’s Country Trade and Marketing Manager, Macklean Kukundakwe, also applauded the students’ enthusiasm and innovation.

“We are proud to be part of this initiative that promotes heritage and connects communities,” she noted.

Beyond performances, the gala featured cultural exhibitions, traditional cuisines, and fashion parades, reinforcing the importance of preserving Uganda’s diverse cultures in the face of modernization.

The 2025 MUBS Cultural Gala concluded with a powerful message: cultural heritage is not just a marker of identity—it’s a cornerstone for sustainable development in today’s globalized world.
