Uganda’s Musician, Ssali Moses a.k.a Bebe Cool has taken legal measures against Airtel, one of the two leading Telecom Companies in the country over the alleged theft of his data saying his gentle approach has all gone in vain.

In a letter dated 14th February 2024 and received by Airtel Offices at Clement Hill, Kampala, Bebe Cool issues a demand notice and intention to sue.

Bebe Cool avers that on the 16th of January, 2024, he bought a monthly data of Shs50,000 from Airtel for 22GBs. The renowned musician alleges that at about 10:00 PM, he opened his Tiktok Application for 5 minutes which consumed not more than 300Mbs and he immediately put the phone on charge to prepare for a Zoom meeting.

“To my surprise at half past midnight without usage, I received an alert that I was left with only 5649MBs with a depletion of over 17Gbs,” Bebe Cool testifies.

Adding that in the next two minutes, he no longer had any running data.

Bebe Cool now argues that the theft led him to miss his Zoom business meeting which was scheduled for the same night forcing him to travel to Lagos thus incurring travel expenses.

He now wants the Telecom Company to provide an inventory of and usage chart of his mobile data for the dates 16th – 17th January 2024.

Bebe Cool is demanding Airtel to refund his data, Shs100M for the travel expenses to Lagos and another Shs100M for all the inconveniences caused to him before the expiry of 21 days from 14th January 2024.

Airtel has been warned to comply or face the courts of law at its own cost, peril and embarrassment.
