Museveni, Ruto And Raila Odinga Discuss Matters Of Mutual Interest Between Uganda And Kenya

President Yoweri Museveni held a productive meeting with his Kenyan counterpart, William Samoei Ruto, who was accompanied by Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

During the meeting, held at Museveni’s Kisozi farm on Monday, February 26, the president discussed matters of mutual interest between Uganda and Kenya.

After the meeting, President Museveni posted on X: “was happy to meet President Ruto and Rt. Hon. Odinga this afternoon at my farm in Kisozi. We discussed issues of mutual interest between our two countries and the East African Community. I welcome them.”

William Ruto emphasized the commitment of Kenya and Uganda to deepening their longstanding diplomatic and economic relations. The focus extends to fostering closer collaboration among all seven East African Community nations to achieve the shared goal of establishing the East African Political Federation.

“Kenya and Uganda are committed to the deepening of the long-established diplomatic and economic ties between our two countries. This relationship includes bringing all the seven East African Community nations closer in their ultimate goal to form the East African Political Federation,” Ruto posted on X.

During the meeting, critical issues affecting both countries, such as energy and petroleum, were discussed in depth.

“We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum,” said Ruto.

Furthermore, attention was drawn to the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship, underscoring the importance of regional leadership roles. “Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship,” said William Ruto.

“I am glad that the issues affecting the flow of petroleum products between Kenya and Uganda are being resolved. We have agreed on a way forward of sourcing and scheduling imports for the region in a manner that will ensure we achieve the most competitive pricing and maximum logistical efficiency. In [the], we also discussed the need for the two countries to urgently pursue the design and construction of the earlier conceptualized Eldoret-Kampala-Kigali refined petroleum product pipeline.”
