St. Kizito High School Namugongo is set to host its annual Fish Festival on Saturday, November 9, 2024, inviting students, alumni, parents, and supporters to celebrate aquaculture and hands-on skill development. This festival, part of the school’s end-of-year activities, highlights St. Kizito’s commitment to integrating practical learning with traditional education.

Under the theme “Promoting Competence-Based Skills for a Sustainable Green Future,” the festival promises a day of cultural performances, aquaculture demonstrations, and a focus on sustainable fish farming. Through its own fish ponds, St. Kizito High School has been teaching students the basics of aquaculture, including the nutritional and environmental benefits of sustainable fish farming. This approach not only equips students with practical skills but also enhances their understanding of food production and self-reliance.

The fish served at the event will come directly from the school’s ponds, showcasing the dedication of students who have raised and nurtured the fish with guidance from their teachers. The festival will also feature various student-led projects, including initiatives in energy (such as briquette-making, briquette oven technology, and solar drying), smart farming (solar irrigation, vertical gardening, mushroom cultivation, and modern fish and poultry farming), and circular economy practices (converting food and plastic waste into animal feeds and reusable products). Other highlights include Green IT solutions and smart irrigation technologies, offering a glimpse into the innovative, sustainable projects driven by St. Kizito students.

These projects are designed to equip students with income-generating skills while promoting environmental conservation. Through waste transformation initiatives, students are learning to create sustainable charcoal and reduce deforestation, raising awareness about eco-friendly practices.

The festival is expected to draw a wide audience, including teachers, parents, and supporters from across the region. Attendees can look forward to student performances, cultural dances, and acts from guest entertainers, fostering a vibrant community spirit. As a pioneering event, the Fish Festival showcases the achievements of St. Kizito High School students and serves as an inspiration for other schools to incorporate skill-building into their curricula.

St. Kizito High School invites all to join this unique event, which offers not only delicious food and entertainment but also a vision of Uganda’s future, where empowered youth are equipped to uplift their communities.
