District Communication Officers from various districts in the Teso sub-region have gathered at the Enenku Hotel in Soroti City for a two-day retreat aimed at enhancing the communication function at the local government level.

The retreat, hosted by the Office of the President and the Government Communicators Forum (GCOF), will take place from June 6 to June 7, 2024.

With the goal of equipping district communicators with advanced communication techniques and emerging trends, the retreat will provide an opportunity for officials to discuss the challenges faced in their respective districts and find effective solutions.

The exchange of ideas and best practices is expected to contribute to a more efficient and transparent communication system within the Teso Sub-region.

The retreat boasts a lineup of keynote speakers, including Col. Emmy Katabazi, the Deputy Director General of the Internal Security Organization, who will serve as the chief guest.

Other notable speakers include Peter Pex Paak, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC), Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, the District LC-5 Chairperson for Soroti District, as well as officers from the Ministry of ICT, the Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC), the Ministry of Local Government, and the GCOF.

In addition to the District Communication Officers, the retreat is also being attended by the District Internal Security Officers (DISOs) from the various districts in the Teso Sub-region.

Representatives from Amuria, Bukedea, Kaberamaido, Kapelebyong, Katakwi, Kumi, Ngora, and Serere districts will be present.

This retreat marks another milestone in the combined efforts of government agencies to coordinate communication processes.

Similar retreats took place in the Karamoja region in March, and plans are underway to extend these events to other regions across the country.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing among government officials, these retreats aim to enhance communication strategies and improve public service delivery nationwide.

As the Teso Sub-region District Communication Officers and DISOs gather to exchange ideas and explore innovative communication approaches, this retreat promises to lay the foundation for stronger and more effective communication systems within the local and central government structures.

With the involvement of key stakeholders, it is anticipated that the retreat will pave the way for enhanced citizen engagement, improved public service delivery, and a more transparent and accountable local governance framework in Teso and beyond.
