UBOS Extends More Days For 2024 Census

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has announced an extension of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census by five more days up to May 25, 2024.

On Monday, May 20, 2024, Godfrey Nabong, the Deputy Executive Director for UBOS, while updating the country on the status of the exercise that was meant to end on May 19, 2024, said the extension is to enable large coverage to be realized.

He says he aims at ensuring that areas that have not been covered and households that have not been reached are enumerated.

According to Nabong, the five extra days are for a mop-up exercise to ensure every household is reached.

“Many people in urban areas were not available during the day, which caused a delay in completing the exercise as enumerators had to go and check their availability. So the extension is to ensure every household is covered,” said Nabong.

He insisted that the extension will enable enumerators to complete their tasks as assigned and guided by the statistics body, adding that it is not a fresh assignment.

Nabong mentioned areas like Greater Kampala, Kaabong, Amudat, Karenga, and a number of urban areas where some households were not enumerated to be covered during the extra five days.

By May 19, 2024, a total of 10.4 million households had been enumerated in the last 10 days.

UBOS intends to release the provisional results of the 2024 national census and housing population in June 2024.
