The Uganda government is urged to find sources of funds – locally – to complement the current HIV elimination budget, which is mostly supported by donors.
During the Delegate’s meeting at the annual HIV Financing symposium held at the Quality Chemical Industries Limited in Luzira, cited a lack of support for the local manufacturers of drugs like anti-retroviral drugs to have a breakthrough in the market.
This dialogue brought together stakeholders in the HIV response to share ideas on how Uganda can sustain the response beyond donor funding & protect the gains the country has achieved.
“We can’t wait to act on sustainable financing for the HIV response. Local manufacturing & demand must be part of the conversation. How do we learn from the powerful HIV movement, driven by civil society? ” Jackie Makokha added.Â
Speaking at the conference was Lillian Mworeko the executive director at the International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA who said that Sustaining the HIV response, requires partnerships between people with power, the beneficiaries, & the communities. So as we move into this sustainability discussion these partnerships are very crucial.Â
