The Hoima Resident City Commissioner, Mr. Badru Mugabi, has issued a directive to all schools in the region, urging them to initiate tree-planting campaigns or face consequences, emphasizing the government’s commitment to environmental conservation.

During the community planting campaign at Bwikya Muslim Secondary School, Mr. Mugabi stressed the importance of tree planting, echoing President Museveni’s dedication to greening the country.

Mr. Mugabi emphasized that schools, even those with limited space, can contribute by planting trees along their boundaries, serving as both markers and environmental conservation efforts.

However, he warned schools of repercussions for non-compliance, affirming the government’s readiness to monitor and enforce tree-planting initiatives across Hoima.

The campaign at Bwikya Muslim Secondary School saw the successful planting of 3,000 trees, a significant step towards combating deforestation, a prevalent issue in Bunyoro.

Furthermore, Mr. Mugabi highlighted the government’s provision of free tree seedlings through the National Forestry Authority, urging schools and individuals to take advantage of this opportunity to contribute to the reforestation efforts.

Encouraging a focus on fruit and medicinal trees, Mr. Mugabi emphasized the nutritional and health benefits associated with such plantations.

Additionally, Hoima City East Deputy RCC Moses Muyambi emphasized the importance of educating students about environmental protection, citing their receptiveness to such initiatives compared to older generations.

Bwikya Muslim SS Head Teacher Abdallah Mbuga reiterated the school’s commitment to patriotism through environmental stewardship, pledging to extend tree-planting efforts beyond the school premises.

The event underscored the collective responsibility to restore Uganda’s natural beauty, epitomizing the nation’s journey towards reclaiming its title as the Pearl of Africa.
