In a bold move aimed at revitalizing governance, Kalungu District Chairperson, Kamaadi Nyombi Mukiibi, orchestrated a significant shake-up within his executive, suspending key ministers and ushering in fresh leadership to chart a new course.
During a council meeting at the district headquarters on Friday, Chairperson Nyombi unveiled sweeping changes, ousting Secretary for Agriculture Maria Namuli and Secretary for Education and Health Sseremba Kizitto Wavamunno, both members of the National Unity Platform.
Injecting new energy and direction, Nyombi appointed independent youth councilor Sharifah Nakanwagi and Ssekalema Vicent of Kyamulibwa Town Council to key positions, with Nakanwagi assuming the role of Secretary for Education and Ssekalema as Secretary for Production, Finance Planning, and Administration.
Additionally, Nyombi assumed the position of Secretary for Gender, while other appointments included Gerald Kiguddu as Vice Chairperson and Secretary for Health, and Charles Kalyango Mwanje as Secretary for Works and Technical Services.
While the move was met with dissent from the dismissed ministers, Nyombi asserted his authority, warning the new appointees against complacency.
Addressing the council, Nyombi emphasized accountability and efficiency, declaring, “Those given responsibilities must perform, or face the consequences of their actions.”
In a bid to streamline land-related affairs, Nyombi revamped the district land board committee, appointing Elisha Mugambi as chairperson and outlining plans to address longstanding issues.
Amidst the administrative changes, the council meeting unveiled Kalungu District’s budget for the financial year 2024-2025, totaling Shs38 billion, with a focus on education and health.
As the new officials took their oaths and outlined their plans for the future, Kalungu District embarked on a new chapter in governance, poised for progress and development.
