Balaam Barugahara the newly appointed State Minister for Youth and Children affairs has said that he has not gone to cabinet to hire young people to join the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).
The PLU is a political group party that was launched a few months ago and it’s headed by the First Son who was also appointed the new Chief of Defence Force Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Balaam is under the PLU and he is the Vice Chairperson for Western Uganda.
Some people think Balaam’s new job is all about getting young folks to support Muhoozi’s run for president. But Balaam says that’s not what he’s about. He wants to use his role as a minister to help out young people with their problems.
Balaam spoke to reporters after getting approved by the Appointments Committee. He said he’s not in it to recruit young people for any political agenda. He’s part of something called the MK Project, which he says is more about loving your country than politics. He invited everyone to join, saying his goal as a minister is to tackle the issues young people face.
According to him, a big problem is that many young folks don’t have the skills they need to get jobs. He wants to change that by focusing on training young people all over the country.
He pointed out that different regions have different strengths. For example, Karamoja has minerals, so he thinks young people there should learn about mining. In Bunyoro, there’s oil, so he wants young people to get into oil and gas. And in Buganda, they’re good at farming coffee, so he thinks young folks there should stick to that.
