Police in Katonga are investigating circumstances under which over fifty computers were stolen from three schools in the Katonga region.

The incident occurred at Kisozi Seed Secondary School in Gomba, Kagulwe Secondary School in Mpigi, and Kibibi Secondary School in Butambala districts on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, at around 3:00 am.

SP Karim Majid, the Katonga regional police Spokesperson, confirmed on Thursday, June 27, 2024, that the investigation is ongoing and so far four suspects are in custody.

“We have four security guards in custody who are helping with the investigations because they connived with thugs to rob different properties from schools,’’ said Majid.

He said the suspected robbers are believed to have used sophisticated tools to break into the premises of the affected schools.

The robbers are also suspected to have been aided by the security guards at the schools.

SP Majid cautioned schools and other public institutions to desist from hiring unqualified security guards to avoid possible connivance.

The police have also tasked schools in the region with installing CCTV cameras to aid effective surveillance.

Police in the Katonga region have recorded increasing cases of theft from various schools in the recent past.
