Members of Parliament (MPs) pushing for the censure motion against the four commissioners of parliament have camped at Kololo independence grounds during the State of the Nation address to collect signatures from their colleagues who have not appended the censure motion at parliament.

Led by Theodore Ssekikubo, of Lwemiyaga County, MPs said that most of their colleagues had given a number of excuses not to turn up at parliament to sign the document, but they are expected to turn up for the state of the nation address.

“There’s a reason why we think it’s easier for us to meet these MPs at Kololo Independence Grounds and to have them append their signatures on the censure motion. As we speak, many MPs have turned up for this State of the Nation address,” Ssekikubo said.

He further stated that if they get a fraction to top up over 150 signatures they have collected so far to meet the target of over 177 signatures required to move this motion, they will have succeeded in their move.

In a related development, supporters of the National Unity Platform Party from the Greater Mukono Region have urged all the opposition members of Parliament, especially from the NUP, to append their signatures.

The supporters, led by party registrar Richard Lugolobi, while addressing the party at the NUP offices in Kavule-Nabuti, Mukono central division, on June 6, 2024, stated that the NUP party has always been against corruption and called upon all members of parliament from Mukono to sign the motion.

The commissioners in question include former Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga, who got Shs500 million, while Shs400 million each went to Solomon Silwany (Bukooli Central), Esther Afoyochan (Zombo Woman MP), and Prossy Mbabazi (Rubanda Woman MP).
