Uganda Communications Commission has tightened the noose around two musicians Gereson Wabuyu also known as Gravity Omutujju and Yasin Mukasa, also known as Lil Pazo over vulgar music.

In a December, 12 directive to all media houses, including TVS, Radios and online platforms, they are directed not to play any of the two singers’ songs including ‘Enkudi, Omuniyo, Enyama, Okwepiicha and Dooze’ since they have been complained of by members of the public for having vulgar and obscene words but also innuendos which go below the minimum broadcasting standards.

“Therefore, in accordance with Sections 5(1)(b), (x), (j), 31 and 45 of the Act and Regulation 41 of the Content Regulations, and in order to protect the public against further breach of the law and the Minimum Broadcastings Standards through the continued broadcasting of the said songs, the Commission hereby DIRECTS all broadcasters, including televisions, radios and online data communication service providers to immediately suspect the  airing and/or broadcasting of the songs titled ENKUDI, DOOZE, OKWEPICHA, ENYAMA, OMUNIO by the above artists from all your broadcast platforms until the Commission has concluded its investigations into this matter,” UCC Executive Director, Nyombi Thembo said in the directive.

He also directed media houses to  suspend the broadcasting of programs that involve discussions of the content of the above songs banned until UCC has concluded its investigations.

“Immediately stop the airing and/or broadcasting of songs and other audio-visual content that contain veiled words, actions or statements that are vulgar, obscene and calculated to undermine, and/or corrupt the moral fabric and cultural values of our society.”

The development comes on the backdrop of Buganda Kingdom banning the airing of Gravity Omutujju and Lil Pazo’s songs on its media platforms.
